Artist Turns Iconic Pop Culture Characters Into Embroidery

Bob’s Burgers

Artist Aidan Charpentier takes his love of cartoons off the screen and translates them into charming hoop art. work under the name EmbroiderTVhe embroiders characters of The simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Sponge Bob SquarePants, and more. Charpentier fills in the design using the satin stitch, a flat stitch intended to cover fabric with solid color blocks. Here it works well with cartoons as they were originally created as flat, graphic images. The results are embroideries that capture the spirit of the shows so many love and often quote.

When he first became interested in embroidery, Charpentier found it difficult to know what he would like to embroider. “I initially really enjoyed the medium, but struggled to find embroidery designs that represented my interests,” he told My Modern Met. “I was looking Futurama one day and it occurred to me that cartoons could easily transition to embroidery. With a little practice I honed my skills and the rest is history.

Although he’s embroidered many TV shows and movies, Charpentier has a favorite piece in his portfolio that sums up why he loves doing this in the first place. “I have to say that my Max Goof from A wacky movie is my favorite,” he shares, “because of how much I still love that movie, and it was the first piece that came together as I saw it on screen. I’m so proud of it that it will probably remain in my personal collection.

Charpentier sells his original works on his website.
