California teenager took 4 months to crochet her own Quinceañera dress

While many of us dreamed of buying a bright, pastel-colored embroidered dress for our own quinceañeras, a Californian teenager decided to go against the grain and do something different. 15-year-old Noemi Mendez from Cherry Valley crocheted her own quinceañera dress, and let’s just say the results were spectacular.

As Mendez often posts on her crochet-focused Instagram account @croemi_co, she loves to DIY her own crochet projects — and she’s really good at it! Exhibit A: She crocheted Mr. Krabs from “SpongeBob SquarePants” with a chilling level of precision and did the same with Tuxedo Sam.

Other breathtaking projects? A crocheted duck and a very detailed jellyfish that we need in our lives as soon as possible.

As ABC reports, the teen started practicing her skills crocheting her favorite cartoon characters and even gifting the dolls to loved ones. But once she realized her 15th birthday was coming up, she knew she wanted to develop her skills and decided to crochet her own quinceañera dress.

“If I had to add it all up, I’d probably say I took about four months to crochet this dress,” Mendez described the impressive and time-consuming process with the outlet.

Her mother, Daisy Hernandez, told ABC she was “really excited.” Mendez wanted a quinceañera in the first place because “it’s a beautiful tradition in our culture.”

As for the dress, Hernandez encouraged her daughter to go for it from the start. “If you think you can, I believe you can, and if for some reason it doesn’t work, we’ll just buy one,” she recalled telling her daughter.

The teenager finally celebrated her quinceañera last Saturday, sharing her artwork with friends and family.

As one can imagine, her mother is more than proud of her daughter for “achieving” such a feat, and it’s easy to see why. The finished product is a gorgeous off-the-shoulder dark blue dress with a tiered skirt and hot pink accents.

A video the teen posted to her account shows the entire crochet process, from yarn rolls to the first creation of the top, and even using a white petticoat to make the full skirt. The clips show how extreme the project was, showing Mendez knitting under a light and even doing these super cute flower embellishments.

But at the end of the video, his smile says it all!

It looks like Mendez’s Instagram is finally getting the recognition it deserves, with several users commenting and even asking to buy products from him.

One user commented, “Hi, I followed you up for a quote on a custom doll,” while another asked for a special DIY project, “Can you do Sally and Jack??😍” referring to “The Nightmare Before Christmas” as an example. Others ask if her already made dolls are available for purchase, while one user asked for a Hello Kitty.

With such a strong work ethic and a Major creativity, Mendez’s future looks very, very bright.
