Dept of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir will participate in the 25th edition of the CII Chandigarh Fair

Srinagar, October 14: TThe Department of Handicrafts and Cashmere Handmade is attending the 25th edition of the CII Chandigarh Fair at Sector 17 in Chandigarh from 14th to 17th October.
The four-day fair which hosts 10 concurrent exhibitions including Handicraft/Loom, Home Decor, Realcon (real estate), Persona, Kitchen Central and International Arcade was inaugurated today by the Governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit. The event will take place after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fair is spread over 300 stalls showcasing a variety of products from Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal and Uttarakhand.
Special attention is paid to Kashmiri craftsmanship and hand weaving at the event where artefacts from pashmina fiber to finely woven rugs and indigenous embroidery styles like rug, Crewel, Chain Stitch, are exposed from Kashmir. Craftsmen from distant regions of the valley take part in the exhibition. The purpose of these departmental interventions is to exhibit and display Kashmiri handicrafts and handcraft products besides enabling artisans to increase their presence in the market.
The department is committed to holding such exhibitions in major cities to provide marketing opportunities for artisans and makers to dispose of their inventory that has accumulated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
