THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Bukidnon handed over a computerized embroidery machine unit with advanced embroidery software to Kababayin-an Kaabag sa Kalambuan (KKK) in San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon.
Kababayin-an Kaabag sa Kalambuan (KKK) is a DOLE-registered women’s organization based in Talakag that has been making clothes since 2018. At the height of the pandemic, the group organized an “oplan face mask” initiative where all members sewed and distributed free masks to the community.
According to DOST, KKK chose to outsource embroidery-related services to other stores in nearby towns due to lack of technology.
The revenue from the new technology is part of the DOST-Bukidnon project which cost 577,440 pesos under the agency’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology program.
The project will support advocacy for the revitalization of local embroidery among Talakag residents and create innovative handicrafts by infusing science and technology.
With the new machine, the women’s organization expects an increase in revenue of at least 40% in its first year of operation.
