Gujarat Handicrafts Exhibition at Shilparamam Starting Today

Hyderabad: Good news for craft lovers in the city. They will have the opportunity to witness the tradition and culture of Gujarat and buy handicrafts and looms, as Shilparamam in Madhapur will host ‘Gurjari Hastkala Haat’, the exhibition and sale of handicrafts by Gujarat artisans from June 2-12 from 10:30 a.m. from morning to 8 p.m.

The Industrial Extension Cottage (Index-C) of the Government of Gujarat is hosting the event.

A statement said the event is organized for artisans with the aim of empowering them, creating better market reach and eventually serving them with revenue growth. The handicraft admiring public of Hyderabad can cherish the Kachchi Ghodi puppet show. Cultural programs of traditional Gujarati ras-garba will also be conducted in conjunction with the Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities of Gujarat.

A senior Shilparamam officer said, “About 70 artisans from Gujarat will participate in the exhibition and give live demonstrations. They will exhibit, demonstrate and exchange their rich customary art and crafts in events such as patola weaving, tangaliya weaving, shawl weaving, Kutchi embroidery, Ajrakh block printing, tie and dye (Bandhej), leather work, copper bell, mud mirror work, zari-zardozi work, beadwork, agate ware, chaniya choli , applique work, wood and metal work, jewelry and accessories, decoration and furnishings.

He said the event will be inaugurated by V Srinivas Goud, Minister of Tourism at 5 p.m. It is being conducted under the direction of DM Shukla GAS, Executive Director, Indext-C and RS Shah, Director (Class 1), Indext-C. The programs will be overseen by Dr. Snehal Makwana, Director (Marketing), Indext-C.
