Mysore/Mysore: Bringing a slice of Gujarat’s rich heritage and tradition of craftsmanship, the Handicrafts of Gujarat Utsavorganized by Indext-C, Government of Gujarat, at JSS Mysuru Urban Haat on Ring Road, Hebbal Industrial Zone in the city, attracts a large number of visitors.
The exhibition and sale, which began on July 2, will be open to the public until July 10 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The exhibition showcases handicrafts made by more than 90 Gujarat artisans. Products and items include artificial and imitation jewelry, bracelets, shoes, decorative items, clothes, kurtas, rattan and bamboo items and other daily use items.
Artisans will display, demonstrate and exchange their rich customary arts and crafts, including eye-catching flower pots, vases, bamboo baskets, floor mats, tablecloths, ceramic cups, jugs, mugs, leather shoes, portrait plinths, patola sarees, chandini sarees, sheets, towels, embroidery cloth garments, cushion covers, beadwork, metalwork, hand weaving products, leather bags, eco-friendly jewelry, jewelry boxes and a host of other everyday items are also on sale at the expo.
The special feature of this exhibition is the direct contact between manufacturer and buyer. The initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of artisans and provide a marketing platform for live artworks of craftsmanship by artisans coming from remote villages in Gujarat and pursuing traditional art in the cottage and rural industries.
The event is organized to empower artisans, create better market reach and eventually help them increase their income, organizers said.
