Hobbycraft Celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee With Knitting Project

As the nation prepares for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a colleague from Hobbycraft in Taunton has honored Her Majesty The Queen’s service with an incredible knitting project.

Melanie Downing, who works at Hobbycraft Taunton, knitted three ‘Queen’s Guard’ puppets which took up position on bollards outside the store.

These fantastic designs will be on display for the joy of the Taunton community until Jubilee weekend.

Melanie shared her inspiration behind the project and said, “Jubilee inspired me to knit the bollard covers for our storefront.

“I really enjoyed designing them and wanted to make the uniforms as accurate as possible.

“While knitting, I had time to reflect on my father’s role in the Queen’s coronation as an eighteen-year-old on the road during his National Service and deployment to the Korean War the next day. .”

Before the celebrations, Hobbycraft has everything you need to get the party ready, from street party accessories to kids’ crafts to keep them entertained over the weekend.

Hobbycraft Taunton will also be running a selection of Jubilee themed workshops for the local community to get involved with.

Whether it’s a relaxing time for yourself or family fun, there’s something for everyone, from the Jubilee Crochet Bunting to the Jubilee Wreath Making Class for Kids.

Once booked, Hobbycraft will send you everything you need to participate in the workshop which will be led by a DIY expert.

Visit Unit 2 Deane Retail Park, Taunton, TA1 2LR before Jubilee weekend to see the installation.

The Taunton store will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
