Tom Daley will share knitting tips in new Made With Love book

Tom Daley is due to publish a practical guide to knitting after starting the hobby before the first lockdown in March 2020.

Made With Love will detail the tips and tricks the Olympic diving champion has learned from the hobby, which he says is a welcome distraction when competing.

It will include 30 projects ranging from “gifts to chic homewares, cozy accessories and stylish wardrobe essentials.”

The 28-year-old was regularly photographed with needles and yarn as he watched his teammates at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

He said, “I started knitting at the start of 2020 and haven’t stopped.

“It’s been a way to get creative during lockdowns, something to distract me from my competition when I’m diving, and a form of mindfulness during my downtime.

“At the Olympics, you’re in a bubble where you just focus on competition. So I had no idea people at home and around the world were talking about the hobby I had been doing for ages.

“I love fashion, creating things I can wear and use around the house, which is why I launched Made With Love knitting and crochet kits late last year.

“This book is everything I’ve learned from my time as a knitting and crocheting fanatic and what I’ve learned from the countless sweaters, bobble hats, dog sweaters and even trunks I’ve created .

“I hope this book will help people get creative.”

Although this was Daley’s first crafting book, he published a memoir in 2021, titled Coming Up for Air, which detailed his early sporting career and his experience of coming out in public as gay.

Lisa Milton of Publishers Headquarters said: “Headquarters are very proud to publish Tom who continues to capture our hearts and minds with his courageous campaign.

“His memoir and cookbooks are all bestsellers, so when Tom captured our hearts and imaginations with his poolside knitting, I knew we had to publish his first craft book.

“It has truly started a revolution – introducing countless people to its ecological and therapeutic benefits – and we look forward to sharing its unparalleled passion and expertise with the world.”

HQ will release Made With Love in the UK on October 27 in hardcover and eBook format.
